Aata - Review
Sidhartha and MS Raju teamed up again after NVNV. Most of the crew for NVNV is repeated for this film too. story of Aata is plain and simple - Sri Krishna (Sidhartha) falls for Satya who runs away from home after she is forcibly engaged to the son of a home minister. He decides to use his brains to win Satya as he realizes no point in taking risk going against a powerful political leader. He takes her straight to the Home Minister. How he managed the situations and won his love, acting as a close associate of the bridegroom, is the story.
Most part of the film feels like Gudumba Shankar - hero trying to save the heroine, establishing himself at the goons place to protect her. Also shades of films like Dil Hai Ki Manta Nain and several other films can be noticed in the first half. Inspite of that the film provides an entertaining first half.
Second half takes off with Sri Krishna handing over Satya to the home minister. This part feels like Gudumba Shankar as the hero settles in the home minister's place befriending the groom and playing his pranks to win his love. Just about the time the film feels like getting dragged, climax episode kicks in and wraps up fast.
On-screen chemistry between Sidhartha and Ileana is good. Sidhartha is very energetic especially in the songs. Sidhartha proves his multi-talent by not only doing on screen but getting credits for singing a song too (Ninnu Choosthunte). There is lot of skin show from Ileana (especially in the song Ninnu Choosthunte) who looked very glamorous in the film.
Shiyaji Shinde as police officer, Jayaprakash Reddy as home minister, Anuradha as home minister's wife, Munna as home minister's son, Brahmanandam, Gundu Hanumantha Rao as priests, Sarat Babu (Krishna's father), AVS (theater owner), Ravi Babu are content in their roles. Sunil in the role of nephew to home minister is very good. His comedy in the second half is hillarious at times. Smita sang Yela Yela and also appears on screen for that song alongside Ileana for that song.
The crew gave their best. Cinematography by Chota K. Naidu, editing by KV Krishna Reddy, audio mixing and visual effects are good and effective. This brought in good natural and rich feel to a great extent. This is specially the case in the first half which is on water and with a scenic background to most part. Background score and re-recording by Devisri is content. Songs are okay. 3 numbers are good. Title song Aata is brought well on to screen. The rest all just passes on. The songs in the second half are speed breakers, especially the last song.
The film has an entertaining first half and a predictable second half. These kind of story lines can be considered 'Open drama' and such lines are a tightrope walk for the writers because once the viewer realizes the end, it is a tough task to keep them engaged from that point on. Overall, Aata is a time pass film.
