Karunakaran name immediately brings Tholiprema to mind. Not only his name but also his film seems to have the shade of that film. His recent Ullasamga Utsahamga is no exception.
Story in brief: Aravind (Yaso Sagar) falls for Lakshmi (Sneha Ullal) in their first acquaintance. Lakshmi and her friend make up a story to get rid of Aravind that Lakshmi has a short term memory. Lakshmi is already in love with another guy Balaji. Naturally, as can be expected in Karunakaran's film, Aravind diverts his attention and decides to move to Kolkata. Destiny is that Lakshmi also lands up there, who is there to see her boyfriend Balaji. To know if the destiny is fulfilled and how; see it on the screen.
This is the first film for Yaso Sagar as hero and first film for Sneha Ullal in Telugu. Yasho Sagar did good in the fact that he did not show off any newbie features. However, he will have to improve in expressions and dances, if he wants to sustain as hero. And at times, he resembles Nitin. Also, dubbing given to him by hero Sivaji for Yaso Sagar is not apt. Sneha Ullal is very impressive in her role. She looked beautiful and will surely turn into a dream girl next door. She also is very impressive with her performance.
Chandramohan, Sudha, Satya did their roles to content. Ping pong and Suman Shetty fail to impress. Brahmanandam delivered comedy to some extent in the first half. Venu Madhav, Dharmavarapu, Sunil contributed their share in raising few laughs.
Even though story is a bit old, Karunakaran tried to narrate it in a novel style. First half just passes away and that credit goes to Karunakaran for his screenplay. Some shots are very novel in the second half. Especially in the scenes where Dhanalaxmi is confused between picking Balaji or Aravind.
G.V.Prakash gave melodious music. And Karunakaran did a marvellous job in bringing the songs beautifully on to screen. Priyatama song came out excellent. However, G.V.Prakash disappoints with background score. At times, the background score is b-grade. Camera work by Andrew is excellent. Editing by Marthand Venkatesh is good. It could have been better in the second half.
Overall, the film is decent entertainer and might get into good note with the youth.
