After five long years of hibernation, Aziz Mirza came up with another romantic comedy and finally got a hit. Unlike the other high profile films of the year (Tashan, Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic and Love Story 2050) Kismat Konnection is a well-made romantic comedy which could be a decent hit like Jab we met. Loosely based on the Hollywood movies Just My Luck and Lucky You’ this Kismat Konnection succeeded in Konnecting with both the audience and box-office.

STORY:

Raj Malhotra (Shahid Kapoor) is an architect living a common man-poor life in Canada struggling to find that One Big chance to showcase his mettle. When he was in college he was the best student and touted as the next cover of Time magazine. But he failed to make it big in life even after 5 years, because his Kismat dis-connects with him on important times. His alarm doen’t ring. His car doent work and ATM mechine doesn’t accept the card. If he arrives on time by chance, the company MD dies suddenly. Raj could not take it anymore when he failed again to be appointed for a shopping mall construction project by Mr.Gill (Om Puri). Dejection leads him to frustration. Raj watches an advertisement in which an astrologer Haseena Bano Jaan claims that she will change every body’s fate for betterment and when Raj reaches funny Haseena played by Juhi Chwla, she tells Raj that he will meet someone who will change his fate and she will be the lucky charm of his life. She helps Raj notice Priya (Vidya Balan) as the lucky charm in his life. In her presence even the impossible turns possible. Each time he meets her, things turn out to be in his favour and miracles take place with him. So he needs to hang on to her, at any cost. Raj desperately seeks her company. With her presence, he manages to get his first big chance from Gill. But there are two problems. One, Raj has to dismantle priya’s Oldage Home for the profit of Gill. Second, Raj loves Priya, but she is about to marry within few days to leave Australia forever. The rest of the story forms how Raj wins both his love and career.

PERFORMANCES:

This is out and out Shahid’s film. He comletely carried the film on his shoulders. His diction, comic timing and histrionics are surprisingly good. Ironically, Vidya Balan played same role as in Lagey Raho Munnabhai where she fights for an old age home. Aziz Mirza should have cast some other actress. Her performance is on par with her earlier film but she looks chubby and deglamourized. Ompuri is exeptional as Gill. Vishal Malhotra as Shahid friend is fentastic. His comic timing also very good. Aziz Mirza extracted finr performances from all the actors. Boman Irani is a surprize package. Juhi Chawla as fortune teller looks theatrical. All the supporting actors at old age home done good job.

ANALYSIS:

Kismat Konnection is the best entertainer since Jab We Met. Aziz Mirza is returned with a decent film after five years. If you keeps aside the silly logics like ‘everyone speaking Hindi in Canada’, this is a clean entertainer. Unlike the other NRI movies where hero is loaded with wealth and happiness and his family is full of virtues and values, Kismat Konnection breaths fresh air into the genre by depicts the struggle of common man. The first half is filled with hilarious situational comedy scenes. Dialogues are funny. Second half is little bit lenghty and dragging but entertaining. Juhi Chawla`s cherecter lacks believability as it treis to be funny. The slacking pace bothers you at times. The climax is clichéd but convincing. The love triangle and the subsequent Sangeet song are not necessary. The screenplay could’ve been better. Music is good. Pritam, comes up with a pretty good numbers. The romantic tracks ‘Bakhuda Tumhi Ho’ and ‘Is This Love’ are very good. Though the film has just four songs (and one for the end credits), they are different and shot beautifully. The ‘Soniye Ve (Dhak Dhak Dhak)’ track is peppy. Pritam’s background score is also indulging. Binod Pradhan's cinematography is fantastic. Most of the movie has been shot in Canada and it has been shot so beautifully. Choreography by Ahmad Khan is not great but reasonably good. The success of Kismath Konnection lies in its simplicity. The honest effort, simplicity, sensitive and subtle sense of humour of Aziz Mirza and performances make you love this film. Here are the best parts of the film:

1. When Raj and his friend get to know that the boss of the company with whom they had contracted has died.
2. When both the friends go to Gill`s office for the first time
3. When Shahid and Vidya meet for the first time in a road accident.
4. Boman Irani’s charecter and the twist.

VERDICT:

Kismat Konnection is a wholesome entertainer aimed to Konnect the family audience and youth as well. It sure winner at box office. Its worth of every penny you spend on it. Watch it.
