Black & White Movie Review : 3.25/5 by
Even though low budget films are releasing very often these days, only few of them see success. Black & White is one of those small films that is well made. Udaykiran produced this film on U.K.Avenues banner in the direction of Srikanth Vemulapalli. Good performances by the lead cat, effective background score by Vijay Koorakula and cinematography by Joshi are plus points for this film. On top of all this is the story line. Director picked on the concept of terrorist sleeper cells and director took enough care in explaining what it means and how it will impact the ones who really trusted in those people. And this film is also apt to the present situation where terrorism is trying to create Panic in India.
Story in brief: Bharat (Rajeev Kanakala) is a software engineer by profession. He receives President's gallantry award when he saves a handful of cops from naxalites. Bharat falls in love with Samera (Sindhu Tolani) and they get married. Khan (Jackie Shroff) is the officer in town to investigate a bomb blast in the city. He suspects Bharat. No matter what he does, it proves the point that he is involved. And meanwhile his close friend Srinu is also killed. Bharat fails to understand the strange situations happening around him and where they are leading him. But he surely understands one thing that there is some conspiracy going on. What are those happenings? Why is Bharat pulled into all this? Why did Khan suspect Bharat? How did they thwart the blast planned on republic day etc should be seen on the screen.
Rajeev Kanakala is, as usual, apt in his role. It is the Bharat character we see and not Rajeev Kanakala. Sindhu Tolani also performed well. She got her own dubbing for the film and that is a big asset. She played both the shades very effectively. Jackie Shroff is good in his role. Role and performance of Uttej as friend of Bharat is a bit artificial. It is not typical style of Uttej. The rest of the cast is content in their roles.
Technically, Srikanth scores good marks in all the departments he handled for this film - story, screenplay, dialogs, direction. In fact, this is his first film and he did not work with anyone before. He did good job with interlinking of sequences and narration style. If there is any negative in the film that would be how the director handled the climax part.
First half might confuse the audience a bit and brings on a feel of 'what is happening'. Second half is very tightly packed that the audience will anticipate something to come. Second half overcomes any frustration from the first half. Srikanth should be applauded for this effort that it is his first film. He knows what he wants to say and is able to deliver that too. With a few precautions in the narration, he could prove to be a good director.
Vijay Koorakula with music, Marthand K. Venkatsh in editing and Joshi with camera complimented the director.
Overall, Black & White is a good film for a first director. He did a good job and the film can be watched once for the theme.
